Something Special licenses U.S. production rights for Battle in the Box

Leading South Korean format agency Something Special has licensed U.S. production rights to the competition series Battle in the Box to UK prodco Interstellar, which produced this year’s successful British version of the show (pictured) for UKTV’s U&Dave channel.

Created by Nmedia and represented globally by Something Special, the format sees two teams of celebrities confined to an empty box with a movable wall, where they must live for 24 hours equipped only with a toothbrush. The teams can earn more living space and luxuries through a series of mental and physical challenges, with every expansion made by the winning team coming at the expense of the losers.

The series has yet to be commissioned by a U.S. broadcaster or platform.

Peninsula Television appoints head of sales and development

Dublin- and New York–based factual indie Peninsula Television has upped Mariana Rios Sanchez to the position of head of sales and development, working directly with the prodco’s chief executive David Harvey.

A four-year veteran of the company, Rios Sanchez now adds the sales remit to her existing brief as the prodco’s development supervisor. According to a release, she will be charged with bringing the development and sales roles closer together to create a more seamless offering for Peninsula’s clients.

A specialist in true crime, Peninsula has produced titles for such platforms as Channel 4, AMC Networks, A+E and Sky Crime, and has recently secured new contracts with Channel 5, Crime&Investigation and Prime Video. Its catalog includes such returnable series as Bloodline Detectives (100 x 60 min.) and Green Eyed Killers (52 x 60 min.).
